Last night we finally started to actually decorate our Christmas tree. We have the large old fashioned colorful lights on, and have hung gingerbread heart cookies that I bought from IKEA. Last night Matt even strung one of the bags of cranberries for our cranberry garland! Hey it's a start! This blog though is not really about the Christmas tree, or even about how marvelous Matt is to string cranberries. This blog is about the cookies and the dogs!
Let me just say that our dogs LOVE cookies. Cali can hear her cookie jar opening from the other end of the house and is in the kitchen in a flash with that look. You know the one. It's the one where she tells you she hasn't eaten in months, she is a very good girl, AND... in all the Earth, no, in all the WORLD all she ever wanted was one little cookie please. Kodi likes cookies too, but is much more subtle about it
This morning Matt and I were standing by the tree talking before he left for work, watching the dogs sniff the tree and the cookies. Matt said " You know that one of those cookies are going to get eaten by the dogs" and I in my naivety said no, they know better... fast forward about 10 minutes. I am rocking in my Mom's old rocker admiring the beginnings of a glorious Christmas tree, and I look down and see one red satin ribbon sans cookie. I reach down to pick it up and while I'm reaching down I see a second red satin ribbon without a gingerbread heart, and I see Cali watching me with the "uh oh" I am IN TROUBLE look she has, and she immediately crawls under the table. Of course I now have two soggy red satin ribbons in my hand and can only dangle them in front of her nose to show her just how disappointed I am. So for now we are minus two gingerbread hearts on the tree, and we have one repentant dog. I think I will hang the remainder on the higher branches and hope they don't get any grand ideas! Oh and when I get home I will take a gingerbread off of the tree and give it to Kodi because Fair is Fair!
